Duck Creek Technologies Wins First Prize for Best Agent at the 2025 Vista Agentic AI Hackathon

Duck Creek Technologies, the global intelligent solutions provider defining the future of property and casualty (P&C) and general insurance, announced that it has won the coveted first prize for Best AI Agent at Vista Equity Partner’s annual Agentic AI Hackathon. The North American, 24-hour coding marathon, held in Washington, D.C. on July 22 and 23, focused on advancing core enterprise software solutions with generative artificial intelligence (AI).

To prepare for the event, one hundred fifty participants on 31 teams drawn from 30 Vista portfolio companies practiced with multiple AI coding tools, patterns, and configurations to augment their productivity for developing intelligent agents: autonomous or semi-autonomous systems that use Gen AI to perceive, reason, and act.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team’s achievement in winning this prestigious AI award,” said Michael Jackowski, Duck Creek Technologies Chief Executive Officer, “This recognition highlights our commitment to leading the charge in responsible AI innovation for our P&C insurance clients. We believe that artificial intelligence is not just a tool, but a transformative force that empowers carriers to achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency, insight, and growth. This award validates our dedication to developing cutting-edge AI solutions that deliver tangible value and keep our clients at the forefront of their industry.”

Purpose-Driven Agentic AI Driving P&C Business Outcomes

Duck Creek insurance technologists, Jared Haite, Senior Product Manager Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data, Yassel Piloto, Principal Software Engineer, James World, Principal Solutions Architect Payments, Gerik Zayatz, Principal Engineer, and Jeff Boutotte, Senior Software Engineer, were joined by Clark Atlanta student Nyla Gravely. Each year, Vista matches Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) students with company teams to provide real-world, hands-on experience.

Together the “Featherweights” team innovated and created “Felix,” a real-time, multi-modal, multi-agent AI for automated First Notice of Loss (FNOL) to transform claims operations, reduce costs, and drive revenue growth. As policyholders interact with Felix, to report losses or incidents and upload pictures and videos, Felix coordinates AI agents to intake and triage FNOL. The result helps P&C carriers address common industry challenges:

  • Improve Operational Efficiencies: Reduce reliance on FNOL call centers for manual data entry, increase data accuracy and collection during FNOL, and accelerate claims intake and assignment (< 8 minutes).
  •  Accelerate Claim Decisions: Reduce claims cycle time, increase savings through early fraud detection, prioritize claims with high propensity for litigation, expected loss, complexity, and propensity for fraud.
  • Deliver Superior Customer Experience: Improve customer satisfaction (CSAT) on claim interactions and decrease policy renewal rate.

Unlocking the Future of P&C Growth with Responsible AI Innovation

Upstream, Duck Creek’s collaboration with Microsoft is accelerating the power of agentic AI to help P&C carriers master catastrophic risk. Recently unveiled at Duck Creek’s Formation ‘25, MORA, a multi-agent AI system was designed and tested to surface event insights and information, while autonomously taking approved preparation and response actions, such as notifying the risk management team.

“What we’ve seen with Felix and MORA is truly remarkable,” continued Mr. Jackowski, “Now, picture that level of seamless collaboration supporting every single transaction across the insurance value chain, driving business outcomes. This approach is not just scalable, it’s purposeful, intentional, and transparent.”
